Defective Seatbelts; Hyundai Recalls 978,000 Sonatas
Seatbelts found in nearly one-million Hyundai vehicles can allegedly unfasten in a crash leading to a massive recall. The announcement affects the Hyundai Sonata sold under model years 2011 to 2014 and the Sonata hybrid from model years 2011 to 2015. Hyundai told authorities that during assembly the seatbelt anchor was not properly fastened and could detach in an accident. Only one injury has been reported at the time of the recall. Hyundai said that they will begin reaching out to affected owners in early April.
Defective Door Handles; Ford Recalls 6,000 Mustangs
When Ford learned that a spring inside 6,000 of their new Mustang door handles were installed improperly they immediately issued a recall. The affected Mustangs were manufactured from January 13, 2017 to January 31, 2017 and were sold in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. According to the U.S. automaker a faulty “return spring” can cause the door to unlatch in an accident. No injuries were reported at the time of the recall.
Defective Driveshaft; BMW Adds 134,000 to 2016 Recall
After recalling around 21,000 vehicles in 2016 over improperly installed driveshafts, BMW continued to receive warranty claims from the owners of some of their X5 and X6 SUVs. After investigating the concerns BMW has elected to recall an additional 134,000 of those SUVs from model years 2011 to 2014. The German automaker told U.S. authorities that some joints were sealed incorrectly, which can allow water and dirt to invade the joint and may cause the vehicle to stop moving without warning. At the time of the recall no injuries were reported.
Defective Seats; Mazda Recalls 173,859
Mazda has announced the recall of nearly 174,000 vehicles in the United States over a faulty seat height adjustment mechanism. The Japanese automaker found that the apparatus can crack and break without notice, which could lead to the driver’s seat moving while the car is in motion. The affected vehicles include model year 2011 Mazda 2, model years 2010 & 2011 Mazda 3, and 2010 & 2011 Mazda Speed 3. The recalled vehicles were manufactured from October 2008 to September 2010. Affected owners will be contacted by the end of the month for instructions. No injuries were reported prior to the recall.
